Lots to Love: Elmar Lesch Eventer Auction Catalog Preview | Eventing Nation

This year, 19 horses feature in the Elmar Lesch Eventer auction, which features a small collection of horses selected for their eventing potential each year and will take place this year on 5 November. The horses in this year’s catalog range from 3 to 6 years old and include both potential podium finishers as well as solid citizens (or, if you’re lucky, maybe the unicorn which is both!) suitable as well both pros and amateurs.

The Elmar Lesch auction has had several successes on the world stage; in fact, two horses at this year’s FEI WBFSH World Breeding Championships – Ris of Talmwho finished in the top 10 for 7-year-olds with Germany’s Antonia Baumgart, as well as Dinathiawho was 11th in the 6-year-old division with Sweden’s Sara Olgottson Ostholt — were purchased through this sale.

Before the auction, horses can be tried out in Bavendorf – if you would like to attend and try out a horse that interests you, you will find information on how to do this. here. You can also request catalog recommendations by submitting your search criteria here.

Bidding will be supported in person or online/over the phone – check your options and register here.

And now — for the fun part: time to dive into the catalog! As a reminder, the complete catalog is to be found here.

Potentially the most popular, at least for aficionados/fans of Cornelia Dorr’s Daytona Beach 8 breeding, in this year’s catalog there are two lots: the first is lot #1 “Burgley” (which lives up to its name, I think). Burghley is a 2019 Trakehner gelding by Duke of Hearts xx – “a thoroughbred thoroughbred by Halling xx out of a Keonigsstuhl xx mare, who was not much used early in his stallion career,” wrote Amanda Chance for EN’s Summary of Burghley Breeding. “But despite a fairly modest number of offspring over 10 years old, he has so far managed to produce four 4* horses in addition to the new 5* horse Daytona Beach 8.” — from the mare Trakehner Berlin 7.

The second product of Duke of Hearts in the catalog comes in lot #8, “Dragonheart”, a 4 year old on Roesnblüte. A tall, lanky guy is one that will go well with someone who knows how to get the most out of bigger horses!

If the sporty little version is more your type, you’ll definitely want to check out bundle #10, “Catharina F”, who is one of those big mares in a small package. This 5 year old Hanoverian mare comes from the stallion Cachassini and the Hanoverian mare Tiola. She’s nimble and quick on her feet and looks like she just can’t wait to get out there and make time around a big cross country track.

Looking for a solid-citizen guy? Batch #11 seems to be on point here, and bonus points for all you crazy gray horse lovers, it’s been cheekbones for days. “Hook” is a 5-year-old Holsteiner who wins the most likely name tag with a very pink nose and just one look at him that tells me he’d be happy doing just about anything, at least least once.
