OBS 2022 Spring 2-Year-In Training Sale Catalog Now Live – Reuters

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company Spring 2022 Apprenticeship Sale catalog is now available on the OBS website at

A total of 1,231 juveniles have been cataloged for the four-day sale, now scheduled for Tuesday to Friday, April 19 to April 22. All sessions will start at 10:30 a.m.

  • Hip No 1 – 308 will sell out on Tuesday, April 19.
  • Hip No. 309 – 616 will be sold out on Wednesday, April 20.
  • Hip #617 – 924 will sell out Thursday, April 21.
  • Hip No. 925 – 1231 will be sold on Friday, April 22.

The Under Tack Show will be split into seven sessions, Sunday through Saturday, April 10 through April 16, all beginning at 8 a.m.

The catalog covers are adorned with photos of OBS Spring Sale graduates, winners of major ranked stakes from coast to coast as well as internationally.

The cover of Book One features undefeated Speedway Stables LLC champion Corniche, winner of the Eclipse Prize as the 2021 Male 2-Year-Old Champion. After winning the first time in Del Mar, he won the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes de Santa Anita and followed it up with a win in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Three for three for coach Bob Baffert, the son of Quality Road ended his youth campaign with $1,262,000 in earnings. Consigned by agent Meric Sales at the 2021 OBS Spring Sale, he landed an eighth Under Tack in :10 flat and was bought by agent Marette Farrell for a sale exceeding $1.5 million

The back cover of Book One features the Spring Sale graduates double in the recent $20 million Saudi G1 Cup where 2020 Prince Saud Bin Salman Abdulaziz graduate Emblem Road beat the graduate by half a length of Country Grammer in 2019. It was the 4-year-old colt’s third win by Quality Road, trained by Mitab Almulawah, now 9-7-1-1 and the latest OBS millionaire with earnings of $10,204,734. Consigned to the 2020 OBS Spring Sale by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), agent, it was bought for $80,000 by Bruno DeBerdt, agent, after making a quarter in: 21 3/5 at the Under Tack Show .

Country Grammer, a 5-year-old son of Tonalist and winner of several full-scale bets, is now 9-3-2-1 with $3,877,320 in earnings for trainer Bob Baffert. He was purchased at the Wavertree Stables Consignment OBS 2019 Spring Sale for $450,000 by agent Bradley Thoroughbreds LLC after making an Under Tack quarterback in:21 flat.

The cover boy for book two is Robert E. and Lawana L. Low’s Colonel Liam, who successfully defended his title in Gulfstream’s recent $982,300 G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes. It was the first start of the year for Liam’s Map’s 5-year-old son, coached by Todd Pletcher, which earned him four tiered wins, a career-best 10-7-0-1 and 1,810,565 $ of earnings. On the April 2019 OBS sale, he made a Quarter Under Tack in :20 4/5 and was bought for $1,200,000 on the Wavertree Stables consignment.

A pair of 2021 Spring Sale graduates, undefeated fillies Kathleen O. and Shahama, feature on the back cover of book two.

Kathleen O. of Winngate Stables LLC is three for three and a Graduated Stakes winner after a two-length win in the $200,000 G2 Davona Dale Stakes. Upstart’s 3-year-old daughter is a two-time OBS grad, sold by Stuart Morris at the October 2020 yearling sale, then bought for $275,000 from the Niall Brennan Stables consignment at the 2021 Spring sale after working a quarter Under Tack in :21 1/5. Coached by Shug McGaughey, she has a pair of wins under her belt and has won $226,280 to date.

Shahama, unbeaten from KHK Racing, is four-for-four and winner of the staggered after a two-length victory in the $150,000 G3 UAE Oaks at Meydan. The 3-year-old Munnings daughter trained by Fawzi Nass, a half-sister to champion Lookin At Lucky, has earned $223,484 to date and traded to Todd Pletcher to prepare for the Kentucky Oaks in May. Consigned to the April 2021 OBS sale by Eddie Woods, she was bought by her trainer for $425,000 after making an Under Tack quarterback in :21 flat.
