Shots leader Julien Casablancas sells its music publishing catalog to the company Primary Wave Music.

According to a press release, Primary Wave now owns “an equity interest in Casablancas’ share of the music publishing of all of Strokes’ compositions, as well as its share of copyright and master royalties”, including songs such as “Last Nite”, “Reptilia” and “One day”. The deal is described as a “multi-million dollar deal”, although no exact figures have been released.

In addition to these millions of dollars, Casablancas will also receive “access to Primary Wave’s marketing and branding teams, as well as publishing infrastructure which includes licensing and [sync] Opportunities.”

“Primary Wave is delighted to partner with Julian Casablancas for his work in The Strokes,” says Primary Wave Music’s David Weitzman. “Julian’s extraordinary talents as a songwriter, vocalist and frontman inspire the magic that is The Strokes. The Strokes are one of the most important bands of this century and are loved by a multi-generational audience that has made them a global festival headliner.

The Strokes are set to return to the stage as the global festival headliner this week after missing a few shows, including Boston Calling and Primavera Sound, due to a positive case of COVID-19 in the band.
